God’s Road Map to Heaven by Way of Route 66 ~ Seeing Jesus in Every Book of the Bible -
Christ Foreshadowed in Leviticus (Part 2)
As I continue with Christ being foreshadowed in Leviticus, and the ceremonial laws, let’s go to various foods that were forbidden to be eaten by the Israelites.
Clean food was symbolic of the pure Word taken in or eaten (Leviticus, chapter 11); this was foreshadowing Jesus, who is the Bread of life (John 6:35). It is also indicative of someone spiritually mature, who can digest strong meat or the pure Word (Hebrews 5:12-14). Unclean food represents man’s tradition, cults, false doctrine, which is in direct opposition to God.
What would happen if they took a detour and exited off Route 66? The children of Israel would be unclean; symbolic of mixing with the ways of the world. In other words, they were not living holy (practicing/walking in holiness), which was the major requirement from God.
There are eternal repercussions for not obeying God’s Word; loss of rewards (Matthew 25:24-30, 1 Corinthians 3:11-15).
Christ was foreshadowed in the Old Testament through types and figures. In the New Testament, Jesus made a way for sinners to become clothed in His righteousness through His death, burial and resurrection. It was prophesied by Isaiah, the prophet (Isaiah 61:10); revealed in the New Testament (2 Corinthians 5:21), and further confirmed in Revelation 19:8. And we also have eaten the spiritual food (John 6:48, 1 Corinthians 10:3). It is wonderful to know that Jesus did all of this just for us.
