It's Either One Way or the Other

Betty A. Burnett

The Cross –

Adam on One Side (Lost)

Death - In Adam all people Die because of his

Sin - of disobedience (Romans 5:12)

Law - The Law could not save anyone (Romans 3:20), although the Jews thought the law of Moses had them in good standing with God

For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh (Romans 8:3).

Condemnation - sentenced to a particular punishment, especially death.

Flesh - Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin (Romans 3:20).

SlaveryTo be a slave (in the Greek, doulos) to sin is to be someone who cannot help but make unrighteous choices.

Bondage to enslave, bring under subjection. NASB Translation. became slaves - enslaved, held in bondage.

The Cross -

Jesus on the Other Side (Saved)

God took care of the sin issue, by sending His own Son (Romans 8:3) to provide eternal life.

For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.

Moreover, the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more,  so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 5:18-21).

Grace For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God not of works, lest anyone should boast (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Justification - knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ (Galatians 2:16). [Approved of God]

Spirit - It is the Spirit who gives life; (John 6:63a) – He baptizes us into Christ.  For by one Spirit, we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:13).

Sonship - For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God (Romans 8:14).

Freedom And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness (Romans 6:15-18).

Friends, one can only be on one side of the cross. Which side are you on?
