Have You Left Your First Love? 7-21-26

It’s not too late to get back on track.

Many saints started off excited and were walking upright and then something happened.

These are some possibilities of them wandering from the Word:

1)      Adhering the traditions and doctrines of men rather getting somewhere and learning principles to grow. My experience and where it caused me to be today.

Some of you are still holding on to unsound doctrine even after you have heard the truth. Why? Possibly because it sounded good and it took you on an emotional high.

I had been saved for nine years when the Lord sent me to New Jersey, where He placed a teacher in my life. What he taught in the Bible was different from the way I had been taught,

At first I was not open to this type of teaching and would say: :that not the way my pastor taught me” Then I remembered the verse that had been seep deep down within: Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled (Matthew 5:6). From that time forward, all I wanted was the truth and nothing but the truth, regardless of who said it.

2)      Loyal- Been in the same church that your family has been in and you feel obligated to remain there despite no spiritual growth.

Example: “I been in this church all my life and I ain’t going nowhere.” Or, You may say: “I been doing this and that, no need to change now.”  Do you love your family more than you love God? What does God's Word say? Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’  This is the first and great commandment (Matthew 22:37-38).

3)      Still holding on to some habits that you should have let go that causes bad health; can’t let that bottle go – smoking and other drugs whether legal or street drugs, gambling (that’s God money and He wants you to put it to good use for His glory), fornication, pornography, gossiping (saying bad things about others); are you guilty of making promises and don’t keep them?

What if God did that to you.  For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us (2 Corinthians 1:20). Your word is your bond. And when promises are not kept, people lose their confidence in you, because you disappointed them.

Don’t get me wrong, all of us have something we are still dealing with, but as we mature in our faith, things should change. Even if it’s the stronghold of deeply embedded roots. There is nothing that we can’t be delivered from- Nothing is impossible or too difficult for God (Luke 1:37, Jeremiah 32:17). Jesus came to set the captives free (Isaiah 61:1).

4)      Putting Things or people before God-  

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. (Matthew 6:33).Many people seek God for things rather than striving to be more intimate with Him.

This is what Jesus told John to write to the seven churches in Asia that applies to the church throughout all generations of the dispensation of grace. Nevertheless, I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works (Revelation 2:4a).

The Word of God for the people of God.
