The Perfect Recipe
I have started to set new goals when it comes to my lifestyle. There was a time when I did not feel completely satisfied with a meal unless meat was on my plate, especially the dinner meal. The more my health was being jeopardized in a way that it caught my attention, and even though I am ready to leave here when the Lord calls me home, I want to make sure His purpose for me has been fulfilled.
I must admit that for many years of my walk with the Lord, I have not always used wisdom when it comes to my eating habits. But eating unhealthy food will eventually catch up with us. Even with that being so, God is The Restorer of health. It is never too late to get on track! I used to quote this scripture – But for him who is joined to all the living there is hope, for a living dog is better than a dead lion (Ecclesiastes 9:4). Jesus was the Only Perfect One- none of us have reached perfection.
To the new way of living and eating. Upon the oncologist’s recommendation, I started eating simple sugars (fresh fruit), low glycemic (beans, lentils, etc.,) and less meat. My portions are smaller, including my intake of sugar free snacks. Meats that are lean (some pork), seafood products (almost any kind in moderation).
Water is my main liquid drink, and if I drink anything else it should be diet or sugar free. Coffee – no sugar, so I use protein coffee (lattes, and protein shakes that are delicious. I use virgin olive oil to cook what needs to be cooked with any kind of oil (tub butter is used sparingly).
I got rid of everything that was harmful to my body, and now I am no longer the same. As I said before, it was easy for me because I had a new mindset and didn’t want to shorten my days. I have been a walker for many, many years, which is also an important factor. It takes good eating habits and exercise to have a healthy body. My friend and I walk together regularly, either in our five-story building (climbing steps too), or at our neighborhood park; sometimes we walk though different neighborhoods.
This is important; I use some meat substitutes, but don’t think I am saying not to eat meat; it has to do with certain kinds of meats that contributed to putting my health in jeopardy, just as drinking all those sodas, and so on, harms the body.
The Word of God tells us to use wisdom, and when it comes to abstaining from meat, it benefits those who know the truth. For instance, some people think they can eat anything they want to when they say grace over their food; they say it is sanctified by the Word and by prayer (1 Timothy 4:5).
Anyone who knows they have health issues should also know that there are dietary restrictions. Why do you think my health has been jeopardized? Living an unhealthy life eventually catches up with us.
In addition to that, the riotous and fast living prior to my new life also had bearings on it, smoking Winston cigarettes for over twenty years, drinking liquor like a fish. Other situations also contributed to it; the environment, pollution, processed foods, but through it all, God has kept me. Not only does He have a call, but His purpose for my life has not been fulfilled. Therefore, He is the Restorer of health (Jeremiah 30:17), and by Jesus’ stripes we are healed (Isaiah 53:4-5, 1 Peter 2:24).
These are some of the guidelines that I use; since everybody is different, find out what is best for you. FYI- I am not a vegetarian, nor a vegan, just eating healthy.
These are the main factors the nutritionist said would lead to improving my health. 1) Exercise 2) eating properly – this is what has already happened in a short period of time: My energy level is incredible; my mind is sharper; my blood pressure is great, and I have lost six pounds. My goal is to lose twelve pounds. This was all done the natural way. And! I don’t get the itis- (sluggish) because I don't eat heavy and unhealthy meals.
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth (2 John 3, verses 2-4).
