Using the Proper Equipment

How to Discover Your Gift

God has given us all kinds of Biblical tools to discover our gifts without buying another person’s books. I am going to share with you what the Word of God says.

There are people that we are surrounded with who are more mature and are experienced in their gifts. The Holy Spirit will place people in our paths to mentor and develop us in our gifts.

Example

The apostle Paul was Timothy’s mentor and he taught Timothy what was necessary, even though he was taught scriptures during his early years.

To Timothy, a true son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord (1 Timothy 1:2). When I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also (2 Timothy 1:5). The Lord used Paul to further develop Timothy in his gift.

Jesus gave the five- fold ministry office to church to grow the people to maturity. And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;

that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting,  but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying [speaking the truth] of itself in love (Ephesians 4:11-16).

Key words from Hebrew Greek Bible and Strong's Concordance Online

*Equipping-Perfecting/maturing (preparing God’s children for the work of the ministry- advancing the kingdom of God).

*Edifying- encouraging/building them up.

*Wind of doctrine- perverse doctrine coming from men.

*Trickery of men- The metaphor is then dropped, and the evil influences on which childish instability is a prey are described.

*Cunning craftiness- unscrupulous cunning that stops at nothing to achieve a selfish goal.

*Deceitful plotting-  a false impression, made to deceive or cheat.

This is why proper training equals effectiveness. Brothers and sisters this is why it is absolutely necessary to use God’s Word as our guidelines. This is the reason the five-fold ministry needs to be functioning in every church that is established by God. Each office of the five-fold is absolutely essential for the church to be effective in all aspects of the ministry.

Example – Does the pastor have the call of an evangelist? The pastor is the lead person for the congregation; when the apostle is not outside the walls to establish other churches, he functions in a capacity inside the church. The same with the prophet whom things are revealed  to protect, warn, and correct, the same with the evangelist. The teacher and pastor are the only two offices that remain inside the church.

Please go back to the Bible which shows you the way. Jesus Christ established the church and the entire Bible is about Him. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist (Colossians 1:16-17). WARNING! Ignoring what Jesus did is DANGEROUS!
