Please pay close attention! Your salvation is not a stake, because you’re guaranteed eternal life, but you eternal rewards are at stake. Therefore, it is necessary for the readers to take heed and find out what your assignment is.  There is more to your salvation than going to church and singing in the choir or being on the usher board.

The office, which is a function (deed, action, work) is basically what we all should be doing. It is not just for the five ministry offices in Ephesians 4:11, office is listed in Romans 12:4- For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office- (KJV) [function NKJV].

So, every born again believer has been enabled to function (serve) in some capacity of certain gifts. Since the foundation is the start of everything, I am sharing about the Gifts that were given to the church by Christ first. This would make sense being that the entire Word of God is about Jesus Christ. There would never be a church without Christ; there would never be salvation without Christ. The church was built on the apostles and prophets, with Christ being the Chief Cornerstone. Now to the five ministry offices: Some use the five fingers to illustrate what each office means.

Each "finger" represents a specific ministry: The apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, and teacher, work together to build up the Body of Christ and bring it to maturity.

Apostle- considered the thumb that holds everything together, as establishers of churches- the eleven disciples became apostles. As disciples, they were trained (Matthew, chapter 5), before becoming apostles who established churches. The first known apostle in the church was Peter, and this happened on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:14-41).

Aquila and Priscilla were a husband and wife apostolic team (Acts 18;18-28). Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus, who risked their own necks for my life, to whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles. Likewise greet the church that is in their house. Greet my beloved Epaenetus, who is the firstfruits of Achaia to Christ (Romans 16:3-5).

Paul was an apostle of Jesus Christ ( 1 Corinthians 1:1, 2 Corinthians 1:1, Ephesians 1:1, Galatians 1:1, Philippians 1:1, Colossians 1:1, 1 Timothy 1:1, 2 Timothy 1:1, and Titus 1:1). I do understand why some denominational church use the word church planting, yet they don’t accept apostles today. They are called missionaries, seemingly they are functioning as apostles, which is not Biblically correct.

Prophet- is known to have the index finger which points. The apostle and the prophet work together, since both have different functions, one enhances the other. The apostle and the prophet are not always in their church, because their ministry is outside the walls of the church. They function in the church when they’re not out establishing churches. The prophet warns, corrects and protect the church from dangers and warnings are given when the church is going in the wrong direction. They are mainly God’s Mouthpiece and they hear from the Spirit; they forth tell and foretell future events. This is one of my offices; that’s why sometimes I write as evangelist and other times, there are warnings and correction that end up building the body of Christ.

Evangelist- This person has the middle finger which is the longest of the fingers. They reach people near and far, and like the apostle and prophet, their ministry extends much further than the others. I am a fisher of all ages of people.

These are three of the ministries on the hand. What happens if the other two are missing? Then the function would not be complete. Every finger on our hands have a particular function, just as the body of Christ has many different members but they function differently. Notice that the prophet can’t do what the apostle does, nor can the apostle do what the evangelist does. All parts are necessary to make their functioning complete.
