Yesterday, I posted a message about us being “wonderfully and fearfully” made by God. After watching the last funeral service for Jesse Jackson and heard his favorite quote “I am Somebody” I started writing and never knew that it was in conjunction with yesterday’s message.

I watched two of the three funeral services for Jesse Jackson. This happened during the time my back was afflicted with pain and was homebound for a few days. Can you imagine me watching one service for more than five hours? On Friday, March sixth and Saturday,

March seventh, for more than three hours. Since nothing is wasted with God, He used this to serve His purpose. It was meant for me to watch one of the most interesting times that took place in the history of an African American Civil Rights Leader; more than Martin Luther King Jr. Maybe it was due to his life being shortened by assassination at the age of thirty nine, whereas Jesse Jackson lived to be eighty four years old.

I have watched several of the dignitary funeral services, but none were compared to Jesse Jackson’s. This man was not considered a politician, but he went to politicians, he was called an activist, but he was called a preacher who called to help others regardless of their status; especially the lower status ones, anyway that was possible.

I thought of him as an ambassador, but that name was not befitting because it is defined as an accredited diplomat sent by a country as its official representative to a foreign country.  This would not be correct because from what I understand. He wasn’t favored by many in high places and he was determined to help people by getting doors open for them, and if the door didn’t open, he’d break it down.

If there was to be a true description Jesse Jackson, titles were not important, he just wanted other to feel like him, that “they are somebody” One thing for sure he was an unusual man that was given much and he used it to help others and God was glorified.

After hearing more about Jesse’s life from start to finish,  this is  my personal feeling as to who this remarkable man was. This is what was concluded; he was a very unusually, extraordinary man. When presidents from South Africa and the Congo traveled about sixteen hours to attend his funeral,  that tells us something,

Somebody said at the funeral service that he was a brilliant man and I certainly believe that was a true statement. Jesse Jackson was given much which reminds me of the Apostle Paul of whom some called “Paul the Extraordinary”

PS. I am so proud that Jesse Jackson went a university in my hometown; North Carolina A&T, a historically black university in Greensboro, North Carolina “Aggie Pride!”

Lastly, it would certainly be a blessing for humble man of his caliber to set aside a special day to honor this great man.
