"Let’s Celebrate - It’s African American History Month!" 2-2-25

Betty A. Burnett

I was wondering if there was something that could be posted about our history, and came up with nothing until Saturday, February 1, 2025. Something happened to let me know there are many people in our personal lives such as family and friends who have rich history.

During my conversation with a couple of family members, I got the urge to do my usual, doing what I choose to call “African American History Month” This month I want to concentrate on families and the struggles that caused you and me to experience the ‘quote’ on ‘quote’ freedom that we experience today. I always give thanks to God Almighty for my own family who was not well-known when it comes to historical accounts of African American History, but they were famous to me and I have a “Heritage to be Proud of” and so do you!

One of the things that came up in our conversation was how we (our people) invented the “Survival Kit” With the help of the Lord our people truly learned how to survive off a little or almost nothing. I remember how others in our history survived and their testimonies were awesome because God was with them and they overcame because they trusted God.

Of all the famous people in history that I have been made aware of, I saw Harriet Tubman as a great leader and fighter, with strength and courage. I told some relatives that I would be a Harriet Tubman when it came to standing up to people. In remembering our wonderful and rich history, let’s not let anybody stop us from celebrating our God given freedom. Harriet may be mentioned throughout my writings during “African American History Month”

Remember what several recording artists sung “”I ain’t gonna let nobody turn me around” I say it this way: “I aint gonna let nobody stop me from celebrating my heritage” That song reminds me of Harriet Tubman; she didn’t let anybody stop her and because she was strong, courageous and a fighter, she not only overcame; Harriet helped many others to overcome.

Spiritually, I do my best to help others overcome whatever challenges they face.
