In order to please  the Lord, we must sell out; give up whatever it takes to follow Him (Got to give it up!)

So, Jesus answered and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life" (Mark  10:29-30).

The meaning - Jesus' disciples left their families and businesses to follow Him; yet they were still their family. Later in scripture the Word talks about Peter’s mother-in-law; therefore, he was married. Now when Jesus had come into Peter’s house, He saw his wife’s mother lying sick with a fever. So, He touched her hand, and the fever left her. And she arose and served them (Matthew 8:14-15).

This is the meaning of a hundredfold now

Example – Job [godly for sure- [“Sold-Out”] Lost everything he had; was persecuted by his friends, false accusations from his friends. BUT! Job was restored twice as much as he had. Now the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; for he had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and one thousand female donkeys. (Job 42:12).

This ain’t got nothing to do with the quote: “God (He’ll) will  give you double for your trouble” People who said that didn’t really suffer like Job. In fact, there is no record of anyone else suffering like Job did. The truth is, nobody suffered like Jesus did. So, His visage was marred more than any man, and His form more than the sons of men (Isaiah 52:14b).

Betty – I lost almost everything two times, the suffering though pain due to sicknesses, the mental anguish, and losses were almost unbearable; even worse when some preachers, brothers and sisters in Christ, and family turned against me. But God kept me by His grace! I may not be rich in houses and land, but these eighty plus years are the best of my life. The Lord is so good!

“Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’;  and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’ He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.  And he who does not take his cross and follows Me is not worthy of Me (Matthew 10:34-38).

Footnotes from John McArthur ESV Study Bible-  Though the ultimate end of the Gospel is peace with God (John 14:27, Romans 8:6), the immediate result of the Gospel is frequently conflict. Conversion to Christ can result in strained family relationships (Matthew 10:35-36). Though Jesus is called the “Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6), Christ will have no one deluded [believing something that is not true] into thinking that He calls believers to a life devoid of all conflict.

I don’t know about you, but I have experienced just what these scriptures are saying, and the closer we walk to the Lord the more the enemy will use against us. This comes with being “Sold Out” But the best part is knowing that despite what comes that we have the inner peace, the peace that passes all understanding, the peace that only Jesus gives; thee abiding peace.

Jesus said: Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid (John 14:27).

My brothers and sisters, it may be a roller coaster ride, but you can make it by the grace of God.
