The Church-What is the Purpose of Homiletics and Seminary? 6-30-25

I am continuing write about the church, what God’s plan is for it, and how it is to function. The Spirit has led me to write and to warn those who are ministry (leaders), who are not functioning properly on the foundation of Christ.

They are not embracing (accepting) the fullness of God’s Word; using the Word to fit their purpose by leaning to their own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6). That is unacceptable to the Lord. He is Sovereign, Supreme, and All-Knowing. With that being said, who gives anyone the right to abuse, misuse or not accept some of God’s Word. Whoever is doing this and passing it on to others is a liar and the truth is not in them.

Let God be true and every man a liar (Romans 3:4b). In this scripture the church is believing the same things that the Jews believed when it comes to certain scriptures, whether they believe or not God’s Word is always true.

The disciples learned from Jesus, the Master Teacher who trained and they also taught others; that is the principle, my brothers, and sisters. When I was going to be licensed into minister, my pastor taught me, and there were certain classes in Hampton Virginia’s annual minister’s conference, but it was wasn’t anything that I am not able to recall that helped to prepare me for ministry.

Actually, people of all levels of ministry  who were much further along in their ministry than I was also attended. Hindsight tells me if I had to do it again, that would not be included in my plans.

There were several times that was suggested for to me to et seminary; God always closed the doors. I am not saying that everyone should not go to a school of learning, be careful what is being said. The very reason may be for you to see how wrong some of them are.

The criteria for being ordained was to take classes before the ordination service would take place. Because to some who knew me well enough, also knew that I had quite a bit of Biblical knowledge (2 Timothy 2:15), and was taught by the Holy Spirit a phenomenon teacher. A friend who was one of the instructors told me that I would not agree with some of what was being taught, but to keep quiet so I could get ordained.

I’ve been known to challenge whatever I felt was biblically incorrect. The bottom line is, that came with my specific grace calling; meaning to have the ability to do what my assignment was/is, although I am misunderstood by many who don’t understand the gifts.

Now to homiletics/hermeneutics – Source: Excerpt from Barry York- Hermeneutics is the ingredients & the cooking: homiletics is the baked bread served.

I believe this is a great analysis. Principle/Synopsis- the ingredients are the FOUNDATION!

The baked bread is served means to serve people a nutritious meal. The Word is to be cooked (heat purifies). Every Word of God is pure (Proverbs 30:5);  prepared properly and served for one to grow spiritually on the Foundation.

I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world (John 6:61). (the Word is to be cooked; prepared properly) and served for one to grow spiritually on the Foundation.  I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”

Why pay money for something you can get free, unless you want a certificate to hang on a wall for people to see that you have been certified by man, or to make you look big; stick your chest out? Do you wear clergy collars and robes to stand out above others? That's not what JESUS did!

God is THE ONE who equips us when we study the Word and rightly divide it, and through the Holy Spirit, and through teachers whom He has given the grace to instruct us so we can be training which leads to understanding, which leads to spiritual maturity.
