Unforgettable Memories: Fun-Time Adventures with Auntie and Nieces

Not having biological children of my own, the Lord has blessed me with many nieces and nephews, and I am truly grateful. Ever since I have been back in New Jersey, the Lord has allowed me to travel to different places in Jersey and to the shore. It is with a grateful heart that friends, some nieces, and two nephews were included a few times.

But there are a couple of them that I hung out with more. These are some of the places: Philadelphia, New York, Delaware, and Baltimore. I traveled with my two of my nieces (mother and daughter) to many places for pop-up events.

Most of these places are not new to me, and I love going to all of them. But there is one that stands out and because it historically African American, it perked my interest. Three of my nieces and I went to Atlantic City a couple of years ago; we stopped at Pop-Eye’s, and wouldn’t you know it, that famous chicken was in our hands, and then on to what is now called Missouri Ave Beach.

I never could call it Missouri Avenue Beach because the original name was more fitting. I do not think it is as being a negative name because it was called “Chicken Bobe Beach” during segregation.

I love remembering where we came from and how important it is to maintain our rich heritage. “Chicken Bones Beach” was a place where our entertainers, movie stars, and many elite African Americans, along with any others who loved the beach and enjoyed having fun eating that good ole fried chicken, and the trimmings.

Although the beach was officially renamed, for me it will always be “Chicken Bones Beach” I love our heritage. If you’re ever in Atlantic City during the warm weather, bring some beach wear, stop by Pop-Eye’s and head to the beach and have fun seeing some history and just relaxing, enjoy the beautiful blue sky, Brigantines is across from the shore. You will love to tell others about experiencing a part of history.
