Knowing History Gives Better Insight
I had written a message for today but was prompted to give some background information (history) of David as an introduction to tomorrow’s message.
David’s humble beginning began as a shepherd boy; that’s the reason he understood how to write the twenty third Psalm. He took care of sheep, therefore David could relate to God the Chief Shepherd who took care him, like he took care of sheep. David wrote most of the psalms of which many were prophetic.
He also became king and the humbleness was no longer there at a particular time. He was an adulterer, and had a man killed (2 Samuel, chapter 11).
After the adulterous affair, God sent Nathan the prophet to David to open his eyes to the terrible sins he had committed. The way Nathan corrected David was in a kindhearted manner (2 Samuel, chapter 12).
That’s why David wrote, “Let the righteous strike me”
He was open to rebuke that was symbolic of the twenty third Psalm- He anoints my head with oil; my cup runs over. This resulted in healing and deliverance. When David said, “Let not my head refuse it” (the oil).
Now that you know some history which is necessary to get a clear understanding of what is being conveyed, be encouraged to know that when you do something out of godly character and the Lord sends someone to correct, be quick to receive so you can move on up a little higher in your walk with the Lord.
