More Knowledge, Greater the Victory.

Jesus is the Light of the World?

Walk in the light ….. Jesus, the Light of the World? From some quotes and songs, it is obvious that somebody is not studying the Word of God and rightly dividing the Word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15). I pray that the readers don’t get offended and think or say I am nit-picking.

This is to help all of us to be more effective in witnessing and ministering.

We can be put to shame by some people, that is, many unsaved people have read the Bible and they grew up in church (doesn’t necessarily mean they are saved), and some had access to the Word while they were incarcerated.

This is an example of being put on the spot: I was teaching a class and explained the scripture erroneously; a person challenged me. That evening as I was examining the Word, I saw that a mistake had been made. The next time we had a class, I told the people I had made a mistake.

It happened more about sixteen years ago, and I still make mistakes, but being willing to acknowledge the error is what pleases God. Also, people will understand that all human beings are subject to mistakes; after all God is the Only Perfect ONE!

To my point for today- It is erroneous to say Jesus is the Light of the world.

Believe you me, I would never take away from the glory of God, by saying certain things, yet I am sharing what the Word of God says.

Let’s go to the scriptures-Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life. The Pharisees therefore said to Him, you bear witness of yourself; your witness is not true (John 8:12-13).

Look at who Jesus is talking to, the Pharisees, the religious rulers who were legalistic and self-righteous. We must remember that after Jesus started His public ministry, the Pharisees were upset, because prior to Jesus’ ministry, they were getting all the attention.

Then many of the Jews who had come to Mary, and had seen the things Jesus did, believed in Him. But some of them went away to the Pharisees and told them the things Jesus did.

Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and said, what shall we do? For this Man works many signs.  If we let Him alone like this, everyone will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and nation (John 11:45-48).

As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world (John 9:5). This is pivotal (vitally important). Didn’t Jesus leave the world? This is what He said to His disciples and to us: You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.

Let your light so (many people leave this important word out) shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:14-16).

This is what John wrote - I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth (3 John 4). Why does John say children? There are two aspects to our walk with Christ.

“Children” are those who are not mature. When he uses “sons” this means they are mature.

I cannot see for the life of me, why so many are still saying Jesus is the light of the world because He is no longer here, and He specifically said we are the light of the world.
