Putting New Wine in Old Wineskins
This is not an easy topic; that’s why I believe it is so misunderstood. First of all, we do not have the power to do anything unless the Holy Spirit is involved; the anointing comes from Him. This is to caution the readers before the message.
Don’t try to fit some of the Old Testament into a new and better covenant. The Holy Spirit did not live in people like He does today because Jesus had to be born, live, die and raise from the dead before the Holy could dwell in all born again believers, He also empowered us to minister with greater effectiveness.
Under the new and better covenant, we are one body which consists of prophets, priests and future kings with the anointing from the Holy Spirit. But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things (1 John 2:20). But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you (1 John 2:27a). Remember in this sense we are prophets proclaiming God’s Word; we are commissioned to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19-20).
Greek meaning of transfer, it can good or bad, depending on its usage. Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that you may learn in us not to think beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up on behalf of one against the other (1 Corinthians 4:6).
Paul puts emphasis on the importance of being humble and not going beyond what is written. Greek meaning of Transfer – to change what was told or written. On the flip or negative sense, one should be careful to make sure what or who they are listening to are not false apostles who are transferring their appearance into apostles of Christ and ministers of righteousness.
How can anyone think they have the power to transfer the anointing. Every born again believer is anointed (graced) with a specific ministry. However, people can be ordained in that specific ministry.
Example: Pastors and other leaders are ordained; I was licensed and ordained into ministry, but it was what God had called me to do, not some person. So, when they had appointed elders in every church, and prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed (Acts 14:23).
This can be dangerous if the person doesn’t understand the true meaning These super spiritual people have the nerve to think the have the power to do what only the Holy Spirit can and will do (1 Corinthians 12:7).
Did Joshua receive a transferring of anointing? And the LORD said to Moses: “Take Joshua the son of Nun with you, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him (Numbers 27:18).
This means that the Lord had anointed Joshua to succeed Moses, which can be a transferring of ministry not transferring the anointing from one person to the next.
After the death of Moses, the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying: Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel (Joshua 1:1-2).
They are trying to put new wine in old wineskins and that will not work, which is legalism; putting the new and better back in the old. Nor do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins burst, the wine spills, and the wineskins are ruined. Instead, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved (Matthew 9:17; see also Mark 2:22; Luke 5:37-38).
Jesus perfected the law when grace came. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ (John 1:17).
We are under a new and better covenant because of what Jesus Christ did for us, He brought freedom! Please stop trying to nullify what Jesus did; by reverting back and putting new wine into old wineskins.
Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son (Colossians 1:13).
