A question was asked about the Holy Spirit’s role in the Old Testament, and that it was told to them that it was God’s Spirit who was active during the times of Elijah, King David, or Samson when the Bible says the Spirit of God came on them, and that it was not the Holy Spirit.
A statement was made: The Word Trinity is not in the Bible; it means one God in three persons. The word Bible in not in the Bible either, but it is the BOOK that gave us to live by. Many words are not in the Bible like rapture but it means to be caught up or snatched away (1 Thessalonians 4:17).
Before going into the message, someone may ask “Is Godhead in the Bible?” Answer: IT is!
“Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device” (Acts 17:9).
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: (Romans 1:20).
For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily (Colossians 2:9).
Hopefully, that is clear, so let’s go to the role of the Holy Spirit. First of all, there is only one Spirit called by many names, but there are many spirits. Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God (1 John 4:1-2a).
God the Father also have many names (titles) and so does Jesus Christ. I am sharing some roles of the Holy Spirit: The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters (Genesis 1:2).
He was the power in creation, and the Holy Spirit still is the power behind everything!
Man was made in the image of the Triune God (Three in One). Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness (Genesis 1:26a).
The Holy Spirit/Spirit of God “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound anointed Jesus (Isaiah 61:1- Luke 4:18).
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him (Acts 10:38).
Some of the names of the Holy Spirit: Nevertheless, I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you (John 16:7)- (He is the third person of the Godhead); Spirit of Truth (John 16:13), Comforter (John 14:26, 15:26). By the way, Holy Spirit and Holy Ghost are the same- Holy Ghost was used in the old English language.
Spirit of fire burning- When the Lord has washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and purged the blood of Jerusalem from her midst, by the spirit of judgment and by the spirit of burning, (Isaiah 4:4). Note- I feel the spirit in this verse should be Spirit.
Our works will be tested by fire. Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is (1 Corinthians 3:12-13).
