Unpacking and Trashing the Bad Contents
Yesterday the message was about dead works which result in loss of rewards. This has been written before, but I want to put more emphasis and add what wasn’t in a previous message. I wrote about parables pertaining to works, assignments, gifts, stewardship or managing what the Lord had entrusted to His servants, which meant that these people belonged to Him. They had a relationship with Jesus.
I am going to use the parable in Matthew since it gives a more in-depth meaning. The parable is a story to bring about a spiritual meaning.
Therefore, I am going to break down that scripture that describes the assignment:
“For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. delivered his goods to them. And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey. After a long time, the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them. (Matthew 25:14-15, 19).
First of all, these verses cannot be talking about hell, as so many scholars have misinterpreted them.
A Man who came from a foreign country is Jesus who came from heaven to earth to distribute talents to His servants. Talents in the Old Testament were coins, these coins were to be invested fully, and interest would be gained. In the New Testament, talents were gifts given to God’s people to invest and gain rewards. How do we invest in our gifts? By being obedient to what the Lord called us to do.
After distributing the talents/gifts He went back to heaven. After a long time, the Lord came back for His servants to give account of what He had distributed to them. This represents the Judgment Seat of Christ.
This is the KEY!
Only those who belong to the Lord Jesus will be at the Judgment Seat of Christ. That’s why these parables cannot be referring to hell. By the way, outer darkness means no intimacy with Christ while they were on the earth; why would anyone think they would rule and reign with Jesus in the eternal realm.
Therefore, we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad (2 Corinthians 5:9-10).
All the unsaved will be at The Great White Throne Judgment-
Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life.
And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death (Revelation 20:11-14).
Reiterated- Whoever built on any foundation other than Christ, all their works will be burned (1 Corinthians 3:11-15). There will be no excuses, it will be too late; there will be a loss of rewards.
Please don’t be like the servants who said: Lord didn’t we prophesy and cast out demons in Your name? Jesus will say depart from Me, you workers of iniquity [they did their own thing] I never knew you! Remember they were at the Judgment Seat of Christ; therefore, Jesus didn’t know their works because they did not do what He told them to do.
People make this untrue statement often;
“Only what you do for Christ will last”
Bottom line is this,
“Only what Jesus tells us to do will last.”
