A Spiritually Mature Christian Discerns Truth From Error 9-10-26
The correct knowledge determines the level of maturity.
This short message is to provoke the readers to understand the difference between truth and error. I hear so many misquoted and misunderstood scriptures coming out of the mouth of some Christians who think they are mature in the faith, What is spoken is what determines the level of maturity one is on.
This has been a quote that is definitely misunderstood, and the reason is because some people don’t study to rightly divide God’s Word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15). They read but do not search for scriptures that connect, support and relate to that particular scripture.
I am just giving one example out of many that are quoted erroneously-discernment and discerning of spirits are so misunderstood.
But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil (Hebrews 5:14). This is not the gift of discerning spirits; it is discernment to determine (distinguish) truth from error.
Some of you may or may not know this, but I have been in the company of people who say spirit of discernment, which is totally different from discerning of spirits, a gift where one is able to recognize evil spirits in a few ways; through the senses – smell, hear, see evil spirits. There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all. This means the Holy Spirit will manifest any of these gifts through whomever He sees fit to at any given time. Emphasis is on discerning of spirits- to another discerning of spirits (1 Corinthians 12:10).
These were supposed to be seasoned or mature saints and they didn’t know the difference between the two, Do you know what the devil does? He laughs at us and tell God “Look at your foolish and unlearned children”
Challenge- Please search the scriptures for yourselves to see if what others say are true. These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so (Acts 17:11).
