When learning ABC’S, it takes time to know all twenty-six of them. It’s a process and they must be in proper order. It’s important to strive to do our best, otherwise there are unnecessary backsets.

I feel this would be a perfect example of the ABC’S- starting off the Christian walk as newborn babes; desire the sincere milk of the Word (2 Peter 2:2). Milk is the beginning, and mistakes come with life.

We must learn the first or foundational principles (elementaries, basics) to grow gracefully (gradually) in the Word of God (2 Peter 3:18).

This helps us to keep from having backsets because of mistakes. We are going to make mistakes and bad choices because of the flesh bodies that have been saved yet; these bodies are still sinful, because we live in a sinful environment.

Our intellect is to line up with the Word of God by dividing His Word correctly. Spiritually, the Bible is the best meaning of what ABC’S mean. When I am answering questions from different forms to be filled out, sometimes they will ask what your favorite hobby is. I say the Bible is my favorite hobby or book. This book has all the answers to everything  in this life and the life to come (eternal life). The Word of God prepares us for greatness and we become winners as we go by the rules.

Let’s use the analogy of a winner in a marathon race; there are rules in every game. The Bible is the greatest rule book of all. Paul put emphasis on running a marathon race. There are certain criteria to the race. It starts off with being trained, prepared, and being qualified to run the race effectively.

Although Paul uses the analogy of a marathon runner, this is fitting for every area of our lives; not everybody is a runner. There are all types of sports, and life itself can be compared to a race. In any event, everything that is done including races must start with training (elementaries). That’s what the ABC’S are about.

Example: Everything started with God, and according to His Word, when God created everything, it was a process. I believe God created everything day by day so His people would model it. Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So, the evening and the morning were the sixth day (Genesis 1:31).

We start some type of intellectual training at an early age because those are the most crucial years to retain whatever was learned. In school the criteria for going to the next grade is to know and understand what was learned and we go to the next grade. Training is important in every aspect of life. In the corporate world, the normal way to get promotions is to function in your position well. The principle of advancing in the natural and spiritual, is to strive diligently and there will be good success (Joshua 1:8).

Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.  And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown; [the world’s way], but we for an imperishable crown [spiritual].

Therefore, I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus, I fight not as one who beats the air.  But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified (1 Corinthians 9:24-27).

It takes discipline-

Example- You can’t skip or miss; it’s sticking to it that makes the difference; otherwise, you will be disqualified (flunk the test).

At the end of the day, we are expected to run the race; finish our course……. (2 Timothy 4:6-8).
