Baptize in Jesus Name? 5-21-25

I searched to see if what I heard come out of a leader’s mouth was true. Although I didn’t remember reading where apostles baptized anyone in the epistles, I wanted to make sure before I challenge the erroneous teaching. Not only that, in the book of Acts, Philip was not an apostle, he was an evangelist and he baptized an Ethiopian eunuch (Acts 8:26-40).

AI- The scripture where the apostles baptized people is primarily found in the book of Acts. Specific examples include Acts 2:38-41, where Peter instructs people to repent and be baptized, and about three thousand were baptized that day. Other instances can be found in Acts 8:14-17, Acts 10:44-48, and Acts 19:1-7.

Betty - They do not go beyond the book of Acts when it comes to certain events that took place. One must remember that Luke’s writing, Acts was the birth of the church, and the power that was manifested through the working of the Holy Spirit to empower people for ministry.

But who we were and who we are now is mainly in the book of Romans which tells us how the entire world was guilty of sin; it talks about salvation and it is a book of progression. After the basics are given, the book is progressive in that it tells us about ministry and how to conduct ourselves as Christians.

I said all of that to say that these people who say that the apostles baptized in Jesus name is only in the book of Acts. Isolating or singling out a scripture is not studying. When studying the Word of God, it is important to have other scriptures to support that verse, a scripture will connect to a verse and relate to it. Otherwise, it is a dangling verses (hanging or swinging loosely).

On the other hand, there are some denominations that believe miraculous gifts and foundational gifts no longer exist. They believe in missionaries (name not mentioned in the Bible), although people went on mission journeys. In actuality, they use the word missionary which really should be apostles who are sent out to establish churches, along with the prophet.

They believe the five-fold ministry office of the pastor, and elders, not understanding that pastors, elders, bishop are interchangeable names (offices, not titles) -(1 Timothy 3:1). Church, this is grievious to God for His people not to believe every Word is true and it is still for today. What God started He will continue that work in us until Christ returns (Philippians 1:6).

The church is grieving and quenching the Holy Spirit. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption (Ephesians 4:30). How do we grieve the Spirit?

Look at the verses before verse thirty. Therefore, putting away lying, “Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,” for we are members of one another.  “Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath,  nor give place to the devil.  Let him steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need.  Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers (Ephesians 4:25-29).

Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies.  Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil (1 Thessalonians 5:19-22). To quench the Holy Spirit is to restrict His power.
