Burnett Ministries Bible study teacher, his wife and I discuss, the previous lessons and the upcoming lessons. We fine tune to make sure what is being taught is Biblical truth, not what some person says. The word anointed came up a few times and from that I felt the readers need to understand the anointing and to stop using it loosely.

Example of the misuse: “That person sho is anointed?” Why? Because the person is a whooper (went to the school of whoop ology)? Because he or she has a broad vocabulary?

Examples of kings, priests and prophets being anointed.

Moses [Prophet]- Anointed to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. This is that Moses who said to the children of Israel, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear (Acts 7:37).

Aaron [priest]- The Lord continued, Now, this is what you must do in order to set Aaron and his sons apart to serve me as priests (Exodus 29:1).

David [king] - And Samuel said to Jesse, Send and bring him. For we will not sit down till he comes here. So, he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this the one! Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So, Samuel arose and went to Ramah (1 Samuel 16: 11-13).

Notice how the prophets, kings and priests were anointed by a person in the Old Testament, but it was done according to God’s instructions.

Anointing in the Old Testament confirmed in the New Testament

Old Testament-

 Jesus the Anointed One:

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; Isaiah 61:1, Luke 4:18).

The New Testament –

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. (Acts 10:38).

All born again believers are anointed because they belong to Christ the “Anointed One.” Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee (2 Corinthians 1:21-22).

No one has a greater anointing than another, they are anointed with the grace (ability) for their particular ministry. That is the reason no one is to think more highly of themselves than they ought to, nor are they to be put on pedestals.

However, it is up to the person as to how much they walk in the anointing. Operating in the flesh is a no, no. For instance, someone could be preaching under the anointing according to their call but then start operating in the flesh. Who gets benefitted? No one!

Each of us has been given different ministries to help set someone else free, Bur, how can that happen when the Spirit of God is left out?
