Rest for the Weary
It’s coming close to the end of another year (2025), many things have transpired in our lives, some are good, while others seem to be bad. However, in reality there are not any bad days; our circumstances or situations may be unfavorable from our perspective.
Everything including days are good because everything God made was very good (Genesis 1:31). And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).
The Word of God plainly tells us this: Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).
If you have not taken your burden to the Lord and left them there, please do; your life will be so much easier. God tells us to cast our cares [burdens] on Him. Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved (Psalm 55:22).
Burden and care are the same in this sense; when we worry. Let’s be realistic- If you’re on what is considered a fixed income, many times it get tight and our minds can take us where we don’t need to go (that’s the downside); the flip side is the blessing when we don’t allow the obstacles of our minds overrule our faith.
Also, we should recall all the times in the past when we saw God in action! He is never short of His Word. After all, the Lord is our Shepherd and He definitely takes care of us sheep. The Lord is Philippians 4:19, our Jehovah Jireh, And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Many people have read numerous testimonies of God’s bountiful provisions in my life; sometimes it is overwhelming the way the blessings come in. My walk with the Lord is relational, meaning that He is not just a gimme God and all I want is handouts from Him.
The Lord wants me and all His people to be spiritually minded first which causes true love. We will seek Him and His kingdom first and all things will be added (Matthew 6:33). Too many people are seeking things first because they are not trusting the Lord. They are doing things their own way instead of obeying God and receiving the greater blessings in the here and now, and in the eternal realm.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6). God’s Spirit cannot lead if you are not trusting; because people are not really believing God is who He says He is. But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).
Challenge: On this last Sunday in December, please look back over the year of 2025 and take into consideration what you could have done better to get closer to the Lord, and purpose in your heart to draw nearer to Him.
I beseech [urge] you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God (Romans 12:1-2). Then you will have dual fold blessings; both material and spiritual.
