Still on Milk? Time to Get Some Meat!
Do you want to have a successful spiritual journey on this earth? This is the Key- But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen (2 Peter 3:18).
As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby (1 Peter 2:2). –
This means the unadulterated Word (not mixed or diluted with any different or extra elements; complete and absolute), the first principles initially and thereafter.
Start off at the basic the beginning (proper training). For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe (Hebrews 5:12-13).
Greek meaning of oracles from Strong’s concordance: designates the “oracles” or “utterances” of God—authoritative, living words that originate with Him and demand faithful transmission.
The way I would construct a sentence: We need to learn the first principles (the rudiments, elementaries) of the authoritative, living Words that started with God and are to transmit (pass it on) God’s Word faithfully. Rudiments- foundational principles- start from the beginning and work our way up in the knowledge gradually and gracefully.
Before Joshua was called to lead the children of Israel, Moses was his mentor. After the death of Moses, the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying: “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses….
No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:1-9)
Learning principles causes spiritual growth - Someone may be saved for numerous years and they think because Christ has been in their lives all those years, they are mature. Not So! One can be saved fifty years and still be a babe in Christ. Don’t let the number of years fool you. In other words, For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith (Romans 12:3).
Elementary schooling -The disciples were under Jesus’ tutorship for three years learning and being trained before Jesus sent them out as apostles which meant they were well abled and equipped to take the Word of God and handle it effectively. Be honest with yourself! How much time do you spend in the Word alone and with other saints?
No knowledge- no growth- some knowledge – some growth – much knowledge- much growth.
