Breast Cancer Awareness Month 10-6-24
You don’t really know what anything is like until you experience yourself. In September of 2023, I was diagnosed with Stage One breast cancer and that took me for a loop. The reason being, I had mammograms every year for many years.
On November 9, 2023, I was blessed to have surgery, and the Lord allowed the doctors to remove all the cancer. Prior to the surgery, three of my nieces took turns and scheduled who would go with me for consultation from the surgeon, the radiation doctor, and the oncologist.
I felt the Spirit told me not to have the radiation treatment, and it was confirmed, although it was questionable to some. It was suggested by the two doctors that I should take both treatments. I stood on what I felt was told to me, and I called the radiation doctor’s office and told them what my decision was. The doctor was made aware of my decision later, and she called and said the treatment could or could not help.
I did agree to take the chemo pill, and the oncologist told me what the side effects were and how long they would last; the Lord helped me to overcome them.
Listen to the Lord. Don’t say no to treatments unless you hear the Spirit say “Don’t have the radiation treatments”
On the day of the procedure, which was outpatient, another niece took me to the hospital; the procedure only took forty-five minutes. My recovery was good, even though I couldn’t drive, and had physical limitations, I never stopped writing.
The grace, goodness, and Love of God during this cancerous situation in the church I attend was manifested through several sisters and some brothers too. Also, a dear friend in Greensboro who had a couple of bouts with breast cancer was an additional encouragement, including family, friends, and my awesome prayer partners. They are some praying sistas who believe in the power of prayer and that by Jesus’ stripes we are healed (Isaiah 53:5, 1 Peter 2:24).
And we stand on this scripture- Have faith in God (number one); tell that cancerous mountain, or whatever it is to be removed (number two); believe that receive and you will have what you say (Mark 11:22-24), not saying that our bodies won’t be afflicted, but God delivers us from all our afflictions (Psalm 34:19).
Thank the Lord for allowing the affliction to come upon me; it was to encourage others, and that He would be glorified. Recently I had my yearly mammogram, and received a good report; the next mammogram is scheduled for September 2025.
Hang in there, my sistas!
