I was introduced to James by a close friend, Mrs. Nettie Coad. From that time, we hit it off really well. James has been quite instrumental and influential in my life. At the time we met, he resided in Greensboro, but James was promoted to another position and from Greensboro to Atlanta which became his home for a while until he was promoted again; from Atlanta to Houston where he still resides.
James is a true go-getter who knows how to climb the ladder of success; “His help comes from the Lord” of course. James never allowed success to puff him up; he is still that South Carolina guy who is not ashamed to tell of his small beginnings.
James has taken others under his wings, nurtured and encouraged them to do their very best to be successful. He has not been selfish in doing whatever possible to do whatever it takes, even though some challenges may have been difficult. Thank the Lord for the fruit of the Spirit – Patience. When I was youth minister James would invite the teens and me to club house where he lived for some fun and treats. His interest in the younger generation really was outstanding.
However, James also hung out with different age groups; he was an all around person. Being older and also more like a mother figure, James treated me like a dear sister friend. It may have been because I don’t act or conduct myself like a “Rising Senior” and I’m young at heart.
These are a list of things I have personally experienced with James: He was on the board of directors at the onset of Burnett Ministries. We ate out and fellowshipped together with others before Atlanta and Houston and on his visits back to Greensboro. I also rode with James all over the place, when he was house hunting. Spending time with James was most enjoyable.
On Thanksgiving day, 2002, I was traveling from Greensboro to Philadelphia with my friends; we would be heading for Europe in December, along with my sister to visit a friend who was stationed in Germany. James found out about the trip and he wired me money to Philly; that was the extra I was blessed to spend more freely.
James was a great inspiration when it came to nudging me to continue doing the work of the ministry and he really encouraged and supported my plays and he was present whenever possible. One year he took me to the National Black Theater in Winston Salem. James flew from Houston to be with my family and me when my mother “Mother Wells” passed in 2008.
That same year James was instrumental in assisting with a car search. Finally, a car was located that I likes and he drove me to Conover North Carolina to test drive a CRV that I had planned to purchase, with his approval. James was pleased with the vehicle and between him and a couple other friends I was blessed with the CRV. The vehicle was in tip-top condition, and when it was sold in 2011, I didn’t have to negotiate; got just what I asked for. Through it all, it was the Lord who used James’ expertise on cars, and he made an excellent choice.
Until a couple of weeks ago, we had lost our connection, but THE LORD reunited us and it brings so much joy to my heart!
James, this letter is to let you and the public know how much I appreciate you. Everyone who comes into your life is tremendously blessed. Keep serving thee Lord and others and you will be greatly rewarded.
A heart full of LOVE!
