If anyone were at the age where they understood or remember that horrible day on September 11, 2001, could be the most impacting day of horror in our era. I was in the church library when this unbelievable something came on the TV screen that you would only think of seeing in a horror movie. From that horrific day on September 11, 2001, (the collapse of the twin towers in New York) memories have lingered on.

There was another day on September 11, 1924, that was also an unforgettable one; my late mother was born. That memorable day was a blessing because with the help of my daddy and the Lord, came my older sister and two and a half years later I popped up like a leftover firecracker on the fifth of July.

God has a purpose for all of our lives; we’re here to glorify Him. I still have that firecracker kind of personality, especially when it comes to the Word of God. It’s like fire shut up in my bones- But His word was in my heart like a burning fire Shut up in my bones; I was weary of holding it back, And I could not. (Jeremiah 20:9); not with emotions of cutting cartwheels, screaming, and running all over the place, but the fire on the inside does express excitement.

I am radical when it comes to the Word of God, and please don’t quote scriptures erroneously., that radical part can come out.

If you hear me say: “I got the can’t help its” that’s true, I was made that way, and I will never try to be somebody God did not make me to be. I tried that many years ago and it didn’t work. I learned that when we are ourselves. More can be accomplished. I don’t fret about who is not pleased with me, if the Lord is pleased with me, that’s what matters!

Another situation took place a little over a year after 911- I was blessed to go to Europe with two friends and my sister. A friend in the military was stationed in Germersheim, Germany and we visited her in December 2002.

We toured several cities is Germany (Heidelberg where we lodged), Trier, Spier, Darmstadt, Luxemburg and Paris. It was most enjoyable and memorable. Some of the people at our church raised questions about us taking the trip, after what happened in 2001. I said if the Lord allowed us to go He would take care of us, and it was an unforgettable trip.

In memory of all the people who lost their lives, their families are still in my prayers. May memories of your loved one’s legacy remain in your hearts; and remember that they served others and God’s purpose in their were fulfilled. That’s what made their lives more meaningful.

Memories of my late mother Catherine P. Wells will forever remain in my loving heart of firecrackers.

The trip to Europe with Nancy, Earl, and Agnes to visit our friend Bernadette has one story after the other that can be shared on and on at different times.

Precious memories, how they linger, how they ever flood my soul.
