Little Faith, Little Works
If you have faith in people to believe whatever they say is true, and faith to sit on a chair without falling (etc.), why can’t you have faith in God. Is it because you cannot see God? Well, that is a cop out!
God can be seen in creation: For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, (Romans 1:18-20).
Abraham didn’t know where to go when God told him to leave his family and go to a land that He would show him. He did not have on a blindfolder on his eyes. Abraham could see where he was going, but because he didn’t know where the land was he had to be led by the Lord God. Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.
So, Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. Then Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother’s son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people whom they had acquired in Haran, and they departed to go to the land of Canaan. So, they came to the land of Canaan. Abram passed through the land to the place of Shechem, as far as the terebinth tree of Moreh (Genesis 12:1-66a).
When the Lord tells us to do something, not ask; the only way we will be blessed is to do it His way. “Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God: (Deuteronomy 28:1-2). The principle is the same today.
God sent the prophet Moses to lead the Israelites…. The Israelites were told by the Lord that He was going give them the promised land of Canaan, that they had not seen. However, it was necessary for them to follow His instructions to the tee; no deviation (Exodus, chapter 14).
We need prophets because the Lord uses them to serve in various capacities to warn, correct, protect; to forthtell and foretell the church which encourages us. What does it mean when I say to correct and warn? Some might think that is not encouraging, yet it keeps the body of Christ from being deceived by the influence of the devil.
God does not reveal everything to us individually, that’s why the gifts are necessary. Each of us is blessed to be a blessing to someone else and our gifts are one of the ways the Lord uses us to encourage one another.
So, do you think certain people are more special than the others, or do you think a person knows more that the Lord God Almighty? Is that why you seek a word from a prophet or a pastor? If so, that definitely is a mark of immaturity!
But someone will say, You have faith, and I have works. Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works (James 2:18). Works are the evidence of faith. Without faith in God, works are in vain. But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).
