I believe there should be a balance in our walk with Christ- some go too far to the extreme. For instance, these people do not believe that Christian alternative to celebrate with our youth in ways of educating them about truth when it comes to the evils of Halloween, yet they can be lights on that day by having godly celebration and invite their unsaved friends to participate, which is the light of Jesus shining through them.

Avoiding Evil: In Ephesians 5:11, Paul urges believers to have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, prompting some to seek alternatives that promote positive values. We don’t get so caught up in the celebration of Halloween and go along with its evil.

Example: In the Old Testament the people were strongly warned against participating in occult (hidden, secret), such as necromancy (communicating with the dead) divination and witchcraft.

There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft (sorcery, divination, and the invocation of spirits), or a soothsayer (one who predicts the future, palm reader), or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer (practice magic, witchcraft),  or one who conjures spells (magic), or a medium (communicating with the dead), or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead.

For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord (Deuteronomy 18:10-12a).

In the New Testament the people burned whatever they possessed that had any form of the occult.

And many who had believed came confessing and telling their deeds.  Also, many of those who had practiced magic brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted up the value of them, and it totaled fifty thousand pieces of silver.  So, the word of the Lord grew mightily and prevailed (Acts 19:18-20).

Brothers and sisters, let’s not get so far out of balance that we cannot be like Paul the apostle- He became a Jew that he would win them, not that he sinned with them, but he was a light to them.

And to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might win those who are under the law;  to those who are without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Christ), that I might win those who are without law;  to the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some (1 Corinthians 9:20-22).

Jesus mingled with sinners to be a light to them. Now it happened, as Jesus sat at the table in the house, that behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Him and His disciples. And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

When Jesus heard that, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” (Matthew 9:10-13).

Jesus mingled with sinner to be a light to them, but the hypocritical religious leaders called Him a devil ( scrip).

During this season, God has ordained  for me to be in the midst of many older people who are not saved. How can I win some unless I am with them? Let’s stop being so “holier than thou” that we turn people away from us. That would be  a great opportunity  to let our spiritual lights shine (Matthew 5:16) versus the Jack-o-lantern light of evil (Ephesians 5:11).
