During this week as we celebrate Thanksgiving, it could possibly be a sad time for many people. I know it could be for me if I don’t continue to focus on the goodness of God.
When I look back over the past year, memories of several dear loved ones who passed on, still saddens my heart. It seems as fresh as if it happened yesterday. Yet, when the news is about others, and their loss of family, friends, and possessions that cannot be replaced, I come out of any selfish thinking.
One thing for sure we never know when material possessions will be gone; it happened to me two times, but we do know as Christians God supplies every need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). At least for those who know His Word and trust that His promises are true. But my God “shall supply.”
Possessions can and will be replaced. The difference between losing material possessions and losing a loved one is this; a life cannot be replaced. However, memories will always remain in the heart.
Many I know have passed on; some in New Jersey, and North Carolina; also, I have heard of some who lost all their possessions. So, this Thanksgiving week, I want to encourage and build you up before the holiday gets here.
I chose not to post pictures, because the lasting memories remain in my heart, and I pray that precious memories of your deceased loved ones will never be forgotten. Remember this, that nothing on this earth is permanent, that’s why we don’t put more focus on the here and now, than we do our future of being with Jesus’ Christ and our saved loved ones who preceded us and are with the Lord.
A loved one who celebrated Thanksgiving with us last year is now with the Lord, but I am giving thanks to the Lord for wherever and whomever His will is for me to be with. Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound (Philippians 4:11-12a). It’s a process; it took time to develop this kind of mindset.
I will also give “thanks” to the Lord in all things (1 Thessalonians 5:18), regardless of the circumstances. Why? Because God is control of my life and He knows what is best for me. Therefore, I am satisfied and comforted! May you be strengthened and comforted by God’s all-sufficient grace.
