Heaven, Don’t Miss it for the World -
Does that phase sound strange? It’s okay; I will explain- After seeing the phrase, I pondered in my heart how a message could be formed from it. There were four scriptures that came to mind.
What will it profit a person, or what will a person give in exchange for their soul?- When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.
For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? (Mark 8:34-37
The rich young ruler- Now behold, one came and said to Him, Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life? So, He said to him, Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.
He said to Him, which ones? Jesus said, you shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness, honor your father and your mother, and you shall love your neighbor as yourself.
The young man said to Him, all these things I have kept from my youth. What do I still lack? Jesus said to him, if you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me. But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions (Matthew 19:16-22).
Man who built barns- And He said to them, take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses. Then He spoke a parable to them, saying: The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. And he thought within himself, saying, what shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops? So, he said, I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods.
And I will say to my soul, soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry. But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided? So is he who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God (Luke 12:16-21).
Many Disciples Turn Away
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. But there are some of you who do not believe. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were, who did not believe, and who would betray Him. And He said, therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father. From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. Then Jesus said to the twelve, Do you also want to go away?
But Simon Peter answered Him, Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Also, we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God (John 6:63-69).
Beloved, the challenge today is, will you give up whatever it takes to follow Jesus Christ? Or will you allow the things of the world to cause you to miss heaven (eternal life)? Whatever anyone gives up, there will be a return. Didn’t the Word of God say: But my God shall supply all of your riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19)?
