We’re in a war!

There is a misunderstanding in the difference between the Old Testament and New Testament, when it comes to knowing that some things in the old do not apply to God’s people in the dispensation (time period) of Grace.

The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace (Exodus 14:14). In the Old Testament, God directly intervened on behalf of the children of Israel.

Compare to New Testament:

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles [tricks, schemes] of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of [b]the darkness of this age, against spiritual of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints (Ephesians 6:10-18).

They had did not have the Holy Spirit’s power. We have the power (Acts 1:8).

Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men.  If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.  Therefore, if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.”  Do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good (Romans 12:17-21).

We do good to our enemies as the Word of God instructs us to and prayerfully they will be convinced of the evil they have done against us and repent. God takes care of people; we are in a battle/war against the demons.

Before Jesus died He was under the Old Testament (old covenant), yet He told His disciples (us too) this: But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you (Matthew 5:44). We love, do good, bless, and pray, and God takes of the rest.

Isn’t it wonderful to know that God has given us the ability through the power of the Holy Spirit to win the battle and walk in victory.
