Some Old Testament Scriptures are Not Relevant for the New Testament 10-2-26
Distinguishing the Old From the New.
The Old Testament anointing is different from the New Testament anointing- The Holy Spirit did not dwell (live ) in people – He came upon for certain assignments. David said: “Don’t take Your Holy Spirit from me” (Psalm 51:11), it was because the Spirit did not live in Him. He did not want the Lord to stop sending the Spirit for the empowerment to fulfill his assignments. The anointing was temporary.
Why did David ask the Lord not to take the Spirit? He had committed sin- sex with Bathsheba and he had her husband Uriah killed (2 Samuel 11:1-16).
Clarity- When David said: Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and uphold me by Your generous Spirit. Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners shall be converted to You Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, The God of my salvation (Psalm 51:12-14).
David was an Old Testament saint, but he was not born again. No one in the Old Testament was born again until after Jesus Christ was raised from the dead. When the Old Testament saints died they went into paradise which was called Abraham’s bosom.
So it was that the beggar died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom (Luke 16:22-23).
After Jesus rose from the dead- the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many (Matthew 27:52-53).
Now this, “He ascended”—what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things (Ephesians 4:9-10).
New Testament- Once Jesus rose from the dead the Holy Spirit not only lives in us permanently. He also empowers us for great works! Each child of God is anointed with the special (individual) Grace for the specific call on our lives.
It’s up to each individual to learn what their gifts are and serve in the capacity God has called them.
