Lest we forget!

Recollection of the Goodness of God ~ “God’s Grace”

·       These old but meaningful songs are getting better and better as I read the words that line up with the scriptures. This is a perfect time to recollect on the goodness of God. If it weren’t for His Grace and Mercy, where would we be?

Luther Barnes sang it like this

How did I make it all these years? How did I make it this far?

Through the valleys and over the hills, I know it had to be God.

How did I make it through the storm and through the rain? If you want to know how I got here, it’s easy to explain.

Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him.  And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep.  Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, Lord, save us! We are perishing! But He said to them, Why are you fearful, O you of little faith? Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. So, the men marveled, saying, Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him? (Matthew 8:23-27)

It was God’s grace, I made it this far; His amazing grace, I made it this far.

I thank You for how You brought me, how You brought ne through the night.

Lord, You kept me and You never left me (Matthew 28:20, Hebrews 13:5).

You stood by my side. If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, when men rose up against us, then they would have swallowed us alive (Psalm 124:2-3).

Skip a verse- I remember the times when I strayed away, even though I kept the Word; still, I wouldn’t obey. But God’s mercy and His grace stayed with me and brought me all the way.  You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace (Galatians 5:4). [From me: the law cannot keep us; Grace keeps us!]

Anybody want to know, how I got here, anybody want to know how I’m still standing.

Some people said I wouldn’t make it; I wouldn’t be here today. But look at me, look at me. I made it- yes, by the grace of God.

When I sit down and look back down through the years. I have to shed so many tears, but I made this far by the grace of God. And I thank You Jesus, I made it by the grace of God.

·       It was Grace that brought us this far and God’s grace will lead us home.

We should be giving God praise for His grace!
