December is a time of year when many events are planned and different activities that people are involved, including myself. Holiday wishes are being expressed in numerous ways, and it seems as though this season brings more people together for all kinds of festivities.
Two events seem to be put on the back burner, when it should be the opposite way.
1) The reason for this season and every season is Jesus Christ, but the world has commercialized it so much what this season is about that Jesus is on the back burner.
2) There is an old adage in some cultures that say many people whose birthdays are in December get cheated because presents are given for birthdays and Christmas are sometimes combined and the person usually does not get as much as they would any other time of the year.
Jesus’ birthday was not celebrated, because that was not what He came to the earth for. However, birthdays were celebrated. King Herod when Jesus was on the earth. But when Herod’s birthday was celebrated, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod. Therefore, he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask (Matthew 14:6).
I don’t feel that anything is wrong with celebrating birthdays. After all it is a blessing to celebrate birthdays; when it comes to Christians we should be thankful that the Lord allowed us to see another year to continue fulfilling His purpose in our lives. With that being said, I am acknowledging several friends and family whose December birthdays of which I am aware.
“Happy belated, present and future Birthday to each of you”
Marcus (New Jersey) – December fourteenth
Peggy, not pictured (California) – December fourteenth
Viola, not pictured (New Jersey) – December fifteenth
Odessa (North Carolina) – December sixteenth
Allen (New York) – December seventeen

Patricia (North Carolina) – December twenty-fourth
