For a few years, I wore many hats in the church (too many)!
Boy Scout chaplain, in charge of the Summer Enrichment Program, taught Bible class at “A Need to Feed” ministry at the church, taught another class at a Senior ministry, on the prayer ministry, would visit schools where our students attended; assisted with the praise dancers, leader of evangelism team (Albert Burke was the teacher), leader of evangelism team, visited those who were incapacitated, made funeral programs for some of the members who lost their loved ones.
I also ministered outside of the church; taught Bible lessons at a nursing home.
Before leaving the previous church, I wrote a Narrative, which included music rendered by a choir, titled “A Heritage to Be Proud of” from a Biblical perspective that was also presented at the church where I was licensed into ministry. I was called upon to present plays at various places in the community, and a couple of times for Women’s conferences in my church. Many times, I was asked to do reflections at funerals in different churches.
A couple of years after I was licensed into ministry with the name Minister Betty Burnett on my license certificate, I took ordination classes in 2002 through the association my church was a part of. It was necessary to have a leadership position in the church as youth minister. As youth minister, children church was for the younger children, and those assisting me would help to train the youth into ushering and during some of the services skits were presented that involved the older youth.
Now to the ordination classes; I have been known most of my Christian life to challenge people when it comes to the Word of God. I also wanted to know the truth and nothing but the truth. So, when the ordination classes began, one of the instructors who was a friend said this to me: “Betty, they may say something that you may not agree with; just keep quiet so you can get through this class.”
Now this is the BIGGY!
When the classes were over, the leaders asked me what Title did I prefer.
STOP!
I don’t use titles; I have the Office gifts of evangelist and prophetess. I told them I wanted evangelist to be on my ordination certificate and they honored it! That was nobody but the Lord! All the others had reverend attached to their names. I don’t take God’s glory- He sent His redemption to His people, He has commanded His covenant forever, holy and reverend is His name (Psalm 111:9).
I have not redeemed one soul; only proclaimed the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Therefore, I don’t take God’s glory. To my knowledge, I was the first person in that association to be ordained as Evangelist.
What level the ordination advanced me to- counseling, perform weddings, conduct funeral services. The Lord helped me to use directives from another minister and what the Spirit revealed to me; to create my own counseling book. I only counsel couples and perform wedding for Christians who are equally yoked.
That’s the testimony of my office as evangelist- To God be all praises, honor, and glory for the things He has done; to God be all praises, honor, and glory for what He is doing; to God be all praises, honor, and glory for things He’s going to do. AMEN!

Caution: Lay hands on no one suddenly- Do not lay hands on anyone hastily (1 Timothy 5:22a). Take notice and see how long I waited from the time the call was revealed and confirmed. Although the people who ordained me may not have understood, I knew!
Ps. The pictures are some friends and family who traveled from far and near places to support me. I wore same beautiful robe that was admired by many for both ceremonies.
