Sins are Like Credit Cards; Enjoy Now, Pay Later 10-21-24
I can identify with this topic, because I was in debt up to my ears, and this resulted in me having bad credit. It took years for me to have good credit again. The way I connect sin and credit card is this: the deeper one gets in credit, the harder it is to get out.
The deeper and longer one stays in sin, the harder it is to get out. Many people don’t realize that a lot of credit cards and sin are similar. Using credit cards to purchase whatever our desires may be, can be more costly that we think.
That’s the way it is with sin, it causes big problems and also major setbacks. For instance, someone in ministry falls into Satan’s trap and can end up losing their ministry. That’s what sin does. It’s the same with the credit card. Have you ever had anything repossessed? Well, I have, and it is not a good feeling. As with sin, when people are exposed, it is embarrassing.
Remember this, sin is pleasurable for a season. Do it now, and we certainly pay later. We may feel good running up that credit card, but it does not feel good when the statement comes and there is no money to pay the bill. And when the bill is not paid on time, the interest rate gets higher.
The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is servant [slave] to the lender (Proverbs 22:7). Let’s talk about this. When it comes to the world system, we pay back, with interest, and high interest rates. However, when it comes to a Christian loaning another brother or sister money, they should not charge interest.
A friend loaned me several thousand dollars with an agreement to pay it back in a certain period of time; with no interest fee. Internet- That’s what the children of God are told to do. Internet- In the Bible, usury is the charging of ANY interest no matter how small (Exodus 22:25, Leviticus 25:36 - 37, Nehemiah 5:1-11). God prohibited the Israelites from charging their fellow citizens interest but allowed them to do so with "strangers" (Gentiles or those not citizens, Deuteronomy 23:19 - 20).
Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law (Romans 13:8). Love is freedom, not bondage.
From Got Questions - In the immediate context, Paul commands the Christian to “let no debt remain outstanding“ (Romans 13:8). The Christian must pay all of his or her obligations, whether those be taxes, debts, or something else. The apostle then goes on to say that the only debt a Christian should have is the debt to love one another. That universal debt never ends. It is the only one he or she can never fully repay or pay off. We must always love not only our fellow Christians, but all people whom God has made.

When we use credit cards, we subject ourselves to the world – although God owns everything, Satan is the god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4). Why? Because Adam gave up his rulership and handed it to the devil when he disobeyed God.
Credit cards are not completely bad; it is the way they are used. A good example is traveling, but paying back before interest accrues. This is when there is a difference in “Sins are Like Credit Cards; Enjoy Now, Pay Later.” The bottom line is this; we don’t know when something may happen that we cannot pay the debt. So, to be on the safe side, always have something to fall back on. Most of all, trust God!
Ps. This is different from mortgage and major loans that are necessary.
