Some Gifts that are Wrongly Worded ~ People are Confused 9-23-25

This is of utmost importance- If the right words are not used in naming the gifts, it will change the entire meaning. All four books have used the same words when it came to naming these gifts.

Evangelist (Ephesians 4:11) - Some people say evangelism is a gift; every child of God has been commissioned by Jesus to carry (proclaim) the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19-20). The office of evangelist goes beyond just proclaiming the Gospel (on the hand it is symbolized as the middle finger); he or she operates in miracles with signs and wonders following. Evangelist has been given the unique ability to share the Gospel; also helps to strengthen the church in evangelizing.

These three gifts are highly misunderstood! Although the are similar they are not the same; their functions are somewhat the same. Example: Although the Trinity (Triune, meaning three in One) are the same they function somewhat differently.

Just as we could have the same gift, but we do not function in our gift the same way; we have our own special grace to function because we are unique and function with that special ability that has given to us. That’s why no one should be jealous of someone else’s gift or even desire to have what has been given to another person. Spirit gives each of us the ability that we have (1 Corinthians 12:4-11).

To the misunderstood gifts:

Office of the prophet in Ephesians 4:11, versus the gift of prophecy in Romans 12:6. The church was founded on the apostles and  prophets, with Jesus as the Chief Cornerstone (Ephesians 2:20). The prophets were God’s mouthpieces in the Old Testament, and they are still God’s mouthpieces today; they bring forth a message, they tell of things that will happen in the future, they correct, warn, which is edifying because it helps the church to get back on track, they also protect by giving warnings of anything or anybody that the devil may use that could cause chaos in thee church- example (false teachers).

The prophet sees visions, dreams, given things directly from God, intercedes on behalf of the people. The prophet has strong convictions, they are uncompromising; not well received many times.

The person with the gift of prophecy in Romans 12:6 is a preacher who mainly goes outside of the church to speak in various places. This is what I believe what the church considers associate ministers/assistant pastors, and so on should be doing.

Office of the prophet versus and the gift of prophecy in 1 Corinthians 12:10. The person with the gift of prophecy in this scripture prophesies (comes forth with a word, and they tell of things in the future given to them by the Spirit of God. Note: The Holy Spirit is the power that functions in all three sets of gifts.

Teacher office - teacher in Ephesians 4:11, versus the teacher in  Romans 12:7. Teacher is given special illumination that is different from the teacher in Romans 12:7, although they are similar in studying diligently, strongly desire to see the church grow spiritually, driven with passion for Biblical truths, make the Word of God clear and understandable to others, they are different in that the office of teacher functions in the authoritative position.

Discerning of spirits- Many times this gift is said by some as the gift of discernment- there is no gift of discernment.

The word discernment is used in Hebrews 5:12-14 ~ For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles [divine communication] of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food.  For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe.  But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern [understand] both good and evil.
