Understanding the Importance of Dividing God’s Word Properly (Part One) 8-13-26

Each piece of the puzzle must fit!

This is a guideline for learning and understanding the Word of God. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105).

Study- Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15). The word study means to work, but it is worth every effort, because good success results from it.

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success (Joshua 1:8).

·         Search - These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so (Acts 17:11). Do you think God was pleased with these people? Of course He was, that’s why they were commended.

·         No  private interpretation –  knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21). Since there is no private interpretation by people, the requirement is to divide God’s Word properly (2 Timothy 2:15).

·         The importance of knowing the origin of prophecy – It comes from the Sovereign Almighty God who knows everything. His Spirit revealed to holy men what to write. Since God’s name is holy and reverend (Psalm 111:9), He alone deserves to be highly revered. The Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth as we seek Him to help us (John 16:13).

·         No grey areas if one is studying the correct way- we may not understand it all, not because of God; He gives us the ability to search things out (use our awesome brains). It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter (Proverbs 25:2). 

·         The importance of Key words – They give a clearer understanding of the scripture means. They also help us to have the proper context. Key words help us to dig deeper, by running references in finding scriptures that relate, support and connect to a particular scripture.

·         Culture – It is important to learn the history of the people’s culture and many times it doesn’t apply to us, However, knowing the difference is important.

·         Language – Learn what the Word means in it’s original language, because various translations have added or deleted some scriptures, changed the original meaning.
