The Tongue is worse than Poison Ivy!
Many times, I write a message about some of my experiences; and the motive is to encourage others who may have gone through similar situations. This also is dual fold; to warn and convict others.
Like the tongue, poison ivy can also spread and have bad effects on others. If you ever come upon poison ivy, make sure you don’t touch it. The weed can be so dangerous that it is almost fatal. A friend had an allergic reaction years ago and ended up at the emergency room.
The point to be proved today is in comparing the dangerous and deadly effects of the tongue with poison ivy. The effects of poison ivy spreading is similar to saying evil things about others. Anyone who gets caught up in evil things being said about others and don’t cut that poison off to keep it from spreading is just as guilty as the person speaking evil against someone else.
Another example:
the ivy that grows on buildings continue to grow and spread and if it is not cut at the root, it will continue to spread. I have seen so much ivy on houses to the point where it had covered an entire side. Let’s see what the Word of God says about that dangerous tongue written within this context: Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things.
See how great a forest a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.
For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude [resemblance] of God. Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so (James 3:5-11).
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.
Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you (Matthew 5:10-11).
But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you (Matthew 5:44). And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you (Ephesians 4:32).
AI- Recognize the power of words to influence and harm others. Understand that careless speech can lead to destructive consequences.
AI- Offer genuine compliments and encouragement to uplift those around you. Engage in acts of kindness to demonstrate your appreciation for others.
For Christians we are commanded by the Lord to esteem others higher than ourselves. That is not possible when we pull others down.
